I dunno. What'cha think? The pattern calls for the flowers, stems, leaves, stars. I've tried different fabrics and arrangements. I'm not loving it. My hubby and V aren't sure it needs applique. If I don't add applique, the quilting will have to be great. And what kind of quilting would I do? Help meeeeeeeeeeee!
Go over to Sarah's Whoop Whoop! post to see some Friday accomplishments -- here: http://confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com/2011/03/can-i-get-whoop-whoop-when-life-hands.html
I like the idea of something coming out of the center but not necessarily flowers. Maybe just some curly-ques or maybe some shooting stars? did you try those?
ReplyDeleteWow, I was going to suggest stars too - as I noted a metal star hanger right beside your quilt my dear. Whether you applique them or quilt them - stars just go with a compass.
ReplyDeleteI agree - the flowers are too organic for the points on the medallion. I would quilt shooting stars in the yellow field - go a little subtle rather than using applique. Maybe gold thread, or a tonal slightly darker than your yellow? About the color of the outer triangles... It sure is pretty, whatever you do!
ReplyDeleteThis one is a challenge. Sometimes when I'm stuck I have to leave a project up on the design wall a long time so my ideas can "percolate." I love the colors in the flowers against the background, but am not sure they are the best design choice either. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI like something coming out of the center star, that really sets it off. I'm with the others the shooting stars would be wonderful, maybe with some 1/4 inch bias strips for the shooting part of the star? It's going to beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the others. Shooting stars would work really well. I would applique them, but that is because I am a fabric person more than an quilting person. Both ways would be wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI think it needs something otherwise the yellow pulls yours eyes from the center. flowers or shooting stars, but I would add soemthing.
ReplyDeleteI have emailed you an idea. Have a look and see if you like it. Perhaps it will allow you to think in a new direction.
ReplyDeleteI love this without anything added in terms of applique - I agree that something complementary like the stars in a thread that would stand out a bit would be a great touch.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, but I like the flowers and would definitely add them. I think it is a nice contrast to the sharp edges of the center. Of course, I love flowers and put them on everything. I love what you have done so far. The colors are great!
ReplyDeleteI noticed on an earlier post you did not have the flowers. I really like the flowers.
ReplyDeleteWhat about quilting the same design as the appliqued flowers in the other 3 corners and filling any blank spots with stars? It is gorgeous but don't let it's beauty scare you away from the quilting!
